North Central Accreditation
Portage Lakes Career Center has met the high standards required to become accredited by the North Central Association, Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. Accreditation by NCA means that PLCC has the resources, personnel and leadership necessary for effective education. NCA, the nation's largest accrediting association, is a league of 6,000 schools and 900 colleges in 19 states. The association works to improve the quality of education through a system of evaluations and accreditation.
Students are encouraged to enroll in any class regardless of age or gender. Training in nontraditional careers is strongly encouraged.
Students must provide the following at the time of registration:
· Complete application form
· Official high school diploma or GED

· Passage of WorkKeys test at program required level.
· Copy of driver's license and proof of insurance (Auto Tech only)
NOTE: There are additional requirements for the PN & MA programs.
As a prospective student, you will be tested on your skills in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. WorkKeys, developed by ACT, Inc., is a job ready assessment system measuring real-world skills. The WorkKeys assessments are multiple-choice, timed for 55-minutes each and taken on the computer. The three sections include:
Applied Mathematics - measures the skills people use when they apply mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques to work-related problems. The test questions in story problem format require the individual to set up and solve the types of problems and do the types of calculations that actually occur in the workplace.
Locating Information - measure the skills people use when they work with workplace graphics, such as charts, diagrams, forms and blueprints. Individuals are asked to find information in a graphic or insert information into a graphic. They must also compare, summarize and analyze information found in related graphics.
Reading for Information - measure the comprehension skills people use when they read and use written text in order to do a job. The written texts include memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies and regulations.
All applicants are required to take the WorkKeys assessment prior to the start of the program. Students that score less than a "4" are required to re-test. A minimum score of "4" is required in all three areas to enroll in any program.

CONFIRMATIONS & CANCELLATIONS
We do not mail class confirmation. You will be notified if your class is changed or cancelled.
The Adult Education Department must cancel classes which do not obtain a required minimum enrollment. We reserve the right to cancel, postpone, discontinue or combine classes before or at the first class meeting due to low enrollment, teacher illness, equipment breakdown, inclement weather or other emergencies. Attempts are made to contact students whose class has been canceled. In the event of a canceled class, a full refund will be given.
If a student withdraws from a program once classes have begun, the percentage of hours attended by the student will be calculated based upon the total scheduled program hours. The withdrawing student will be billed for the percentage of hours completed. See the chart below for refund percentages. Official withdrawal is defined as the student's last day of attendance.
